Good Morning:
Before I go off to work I wanted to ask a quick question. I recently purchased an old Gibson J50 to use as a learning victim. It needed a neck reset and the old bridge had been shaved to almost nothing. The repairs are all done now but, when I steamed off the neck the finish got some white stains underneath the lacquer. Is there any fix? T.I.A.   Mike

I just lightly wipe some Behkol solvent on and
it releases the moisture.I think Stew-mac sells it.

It comes to the surface in a few days, then it should rub off with about any
rubbing compound, sometimes just with polish. Though I don't think it's
"supposed to", I've had issues with Behkol solvent seeming to soften a few
nitro finishes - doesn't always happen, but I've seen a few isolated incidents.
I assume Behkol works because it's probably quite hygroscopic. Along the
same line I've tried fresh denatured alcohol before and it seemed to help,
though I'm sure there are even less invasive hygroscopic liquids out there. In
general though I just give it a few days after steaming then rub it out with
Meguiars #9, sometimes #7.
